EC: Increasing Engagement and Decreasing Anxiety using the Math Workshop Approach

The Math Workshop model of instruction creates an environment where teachers are facilitators and students believe in themselves as mathematicians, expressing a growth mindset regarding mathematics. Math Workshop focuses on differentiation, meeting the needs of all students while creating a learning environment that is possible for teachers to easily maintain. Participants will learn about the different structures of Math Workshop, explore ways to increase student engagement, & take part in math routines that will get Math Workshop up and running in the classroom.  Participants will also learn tips to begin & maintain this successful structure that creates a classroom environment where students engage in deep discourse, meaningful learning stations, rich problem-solving tasks, & guided groups. Finding this model of instruction worthwhile, participants will have the tools to start immediately.
